I deploy a Hobo Water Level Logger
at each field site to approximate a still tide height in the intertidal.
I survey the mussel bed relative to this point. |

Robomussel
Robomussels were designed by Brian
Helmuth to accurately mimic mussel body temperatures. Polyester resin is
molded around Tidbit
temperature loggers into a final product that
is the size, shape, and color of a mussel. I use robomussels
to help model mussel body temperatures at the upper limits of the
mussel bed. |

Omega Thermocouple Wire
I use thermocouple wire to measure the temperature of mussels.
In this picture the one end of the wire is inserted into a gaping
mussel and the other end of the wire is connected to a thermocouple
reader. |

Omega Temperature Controller
I used this temperature controller to make a
portable incubator to study mussel mortality rates at different
temperatures. |
